Top of mind for Jared, James

  • 18 new CCRs from Payara
    • EE 8, 10 and 11
  • Jakarta Future Directions call is now once a month at least through the summer months
  • Jared out for the July 14 meeting

Jakarta EE 12

  • M6 week 1 of 6 starts this week (M6 ends Aug 31)
    • M5 competes today
  • Core Profile progress
    • CDI
      • Beta1
    • JSON-B
      • 3.1.0 M1 is now out
      • Kyle is out for 6 weeks
    • JSON-P
      • No M1 yet, but is planned
    • REST
      • No M1 yet
      • Need more committers to be active in order to get PR merged. Without 3 active committers, nothing can merge in REST
      • James looked at changing the rules, but that was rejected
      • Specification still references JAX-RS in spec and other places which has been blocked being updated in the past by veto
      • Jersey has lost a lot of committers due to Oracle lay offs
  • Debate about how many implementations are needed
    • Had this discussion with REST, CDI, NoSQL and Persistence
    • There are no requirement to have more than one implementation
    • Over time vendors may coalesce to one implementation
    • Starting a second / third implementation is time consuming especially as a specification grows
    • If there is only one implementation, others are welcome to contribute to it.
    • Reasons to have a new implementation include licensing and governance
    • Need to have multiple vendors contributing to an implementation if there is only one implementation to get diverse thought from the spec experts
  • Zoom meeting settings discussion about transcript and meeting notes from it
    • Zoom AI is enabled in this meeting and can see a transcript from the app
    • Tanja will look into it.
  • MP
    • Updates from MP call last week
      • Steering committee meeting did not have quorum. Reschedule to next week
      • Eclipse Foundation is looking to have updates done in all charters for working groups to create some standardization
        • Jakarta is also looking at these charter changes as well as other ones that are being explored. Will be discussed at Jakarta Steering committee
        • Example updates: Eclipse is asking to be made are about quorum and voting language. Mostly clarification and adding things that were missing.
        • Example, “Simple Majority” paragraph missing from Jakarta Charter and the MP Charter
    • MP 7.2 targeting July 21, 2026
      • Could be delayed due to ratifying implementation delays
    • Still wanting to move Jakarta Config story forward
      • It is on the schedule for the MP Steering committee
  • Faces and Security spec are progressing to get to a new milestone version soon(ish)
    • Security adding REST integration
    • May be advantage to have an API to get the REST endpoint URLs
      • Currently using a Provider to discover all endpoints
      • An API to get all endpoints could have a security risk of course
  • Scott: XML Binding 4.0.3 TCK was accidentally built with Java 21 as per https://github.com/jakartaee/jaxb-tck/issues/197 (thanks Robert Patrick for reporting!)
    • Lukas may not be able to do an update in the near future
